A functional garden oasis in Athlone
The Challenge: To provide an urban garden area of the highest design quality which is accessible while being fun and functional.
The products would have to be:
Functional to accommodate the special needs of the customer.
Resilient and suitable for Irish conditions.
Accommodate the vision specified by Leonie Cornelius (Landscape Architect).
Available to suit the tight project timeline.
70m2 of Cobblesett Paving 60mm was laid as a car-parking area in the front of the house. This paving was supplied in a Golden Brindle colour. The Cobblesett Paving provided a durable paving product that can accommodate light traffic and turning areas and requires minimum maintenance or protecting from the elements.
The Cobblesett Paving was restrained using 25m of Roadstone Castlestone Kerb in a charcoal colour. The Castlestone Kerb is a 240x120x160 kerb unit that can be used in a variety of different laying directions with the short length of the kerb block also making it ideal for curved work. Castlestone Kerb is a flexible kerb unit, it can also be used for planted areas, steps and border details.
50m2 of Milan Paving was laid at the bottom of the garden around the garden shed. Milan paving is a 360x120x80mm + 480x120x80mm concrete paving product which comes in a mixed bale and has a high-end granite textured finish. Milan paving gives a modern linear paved finish and suits both residential and commercial projects.
Both the Milan and Cobblesett paving were laid on 50mm of Roadstone Paving Grit which was screeded over 200mm of fully compacted Clause 804 Stone. Both of these products were supplied from Roadstone’s local quarry. Roadstone also supplied the Kiln Dried Silver Granite Jointing Sand for the paving and all these products were send from Roadstone’s paving plant in Gooig (Limerick).
Roadstone also supplied 100m2 of Aqua Thomond Paving, in a natural colour, for the rear patio. Aqua Thomond Paving comes in single size with a 80mm depth. Roadstone provided a fully designed and permeable paving system through Roadstone’s complimentary design service for Permeable Paving.
The build-up for the permeable paved area was made up of Inbitex Geotextile below 150mm of 10-63mm crushed aggregate below 150mm of 5-20mm crushed aggregate below a second layer of Inbitex Geotextile below 50mm of laying grit below the 80mm Aqua Thomond Paving brick.
All components were supplied by Roadstone from local Roadstone Quarries and Roadstone’s Gooig paving plant in Limerick.
