CEVO - Low carbon concrete used in Waterfront South Central Development

Waterfront Commercial is part of the Waterfront South Central Development in Dublin docklands which encompasses a 4.6-acre site.  Waterfront Commercial includes three RC frame Grade A office buildings that are scheduled for completion in 2027.

Waterfront South Central Development - CEVO
The Challenge

The project specification for the development included project specific sustainability requirements for all products.  These requirements mandated the use of materials classified as sustainable & healthy and products were required to have an embodied carbon optimization report.  The specification also included detailed requirements for concrete, requiring the use of low carbon concrete mixes to minimise environmental impacts.

The Solution

Roadstone CEVO concrete mixes, which offer more than 30% reduction in CO2 emissions compared to traditional concretes, provided the ideal solution to meet the project sustainability requirements. Through collaboration with the key project stakeholders, concrete mixes were optimised to meet the challenging project programme requirements.  The use of CEVO A and A+ mixes, which provide carbon savings of greater than 40% and 50% respectively, was maximised in basement slab concrete mixes.  CEVO concretes demonstrate transparent carbon reduction benefits, with an easy-to-understand performance rating system, R-Score. The R-Score is based on the extent of carbon reduction achieved versus industry norms.

A Roadstone CO2 Footprint Report proved the ideal reporting solution in giving detailed carbon footprint information for all concrete mixes supplied to the project.  The Roadstone CO2 Footprint Report details the cradle to gate (A1-A3) and transport to site (A4) product and project carbon footprint information.

The Result

The Roadstone CO2 Footprint Report gave a detailed distribution of CEVO mixes used across the project.  Additionally, the report details overall and mix specific quantities, carbon usage, carbon savings and the percentage of carbon saved vs the baseline.

The project specific sustainability requirements were achieved using a range of Roadstone CEVO concrete mixes, while the CO2 Footprint Report provided a detailed carbon breakdown for all concrete supplied to the project simplifying the reporting process.
