Roadstone reps and HTL at awards

The National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI) has recognised the exceptional work of HTL, Roadstone’s partner in 3D Concrete Printing with a remarkable reward which underscores the success of our collaboration on the innovative project. The esteemed ‘Standards Innovation Award’ by the National Standards Authority of Ireland (NSAI)was established under the Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) Category 4 Additive Construction (AC).

The award acknowledges the successful completion of Grange Close, a three-bedroom housing development in Dundalk using cutting-edge concrete printing technology. Roadstone contributed as suppliers of the Ready-Mix concrete on this groundbreaking initiative that was also executed in collaboration with Louth County Council and LMETB
Speaking at the ceremony, NSAI CEO Geraldine Larkin bestowed praise on HTL and the overall project that has elevated Ireland to a leading role in innovative construction practices. “This honor recognises your exceptional integration of standards into HTL Technologies’ processes for 3D house construction printing… By utilising I.S. EN ISO/ASTM 52939:2023 and achieving the declaration of conformity, you have set a remarkable example”

Justin Kinsella, co-founder of HTL.Tech, emphasized the timely alignment of the NSAI’s publication of I.S. EN ISO/ASTM 52939:2023 with the development of the Social Housing Scheme in County Louth and expressed gratitude to the NSAI and its technical committee. He stated, “Achieving conformity with this standard on our project combined with the recognition provided by the NSAI’s ‘Standards Innovation Award’ is a major achievement and marks a significant milestone for both HTL.tech and the technology”. Kinsella added that this accomplishment reflects the hard work of the HTL.Tech team, their delivery partners, and the Standards Auditor.

Grange Close represents a groundbreaking achievement as the first housing development in Europe to utilize Ready-Mix concrete for 3D Construction Printing. Each home was designed and built in accordance with Irish Building Regulations and meets the new Additive Construction standard, I.S. EN ISO/ASTM 52939:2023. This innovative technology ensured uncompromised quality throughout the process. Additionally, a successful audit by Qualified GmbH resulted in a Certificate of Conformity for the Grange Close site. This marks the first instance of a 3DCP housing project receiving certification under this standard, further solidifying HTL Tech's leadership in innovative and compliant construction practices.

The project’s ambitious technological approach is complemented by a significant reduction in delivery time, with completion shortened by a staggering estimated 30%. This will greatly aid the rising demand for housing, enabling the rapid delivery of high-quality homes across Ireland and the UK. Additionally, Roadstone’s partnership with HTL has introduced an exciting new product in the form of printable concrete. This cost-effective solution enhances 3D construction printing capabilities, providing an efficient option for rapid home delivery.

The Grange Close development marks a transformative moment in the construction landscape. By collaborating with HTL Tech in using Ready-Mix concrete in 3D Construction Printing, we are proud to be at the forefront of innovative building practices with sustainability at the forefront. Achieving certification under the new Additive Construction standard demonstrates commitment to quality and compliance, reinforcing our role as a trusted partner in this pioneering project.

Paddy Diviney, Commercial manager, Roadstone commented "The development of the Irish Building Regulations last year in formally recognizing and certifying 3DCP has come at a critical point in our journey of innovation. Not only is Roadstone is at the forefront of concrete technology, but our partnership with HTL has proven the benefits of group thinking and collaboration in the quest to find new solutions for the Irish building market. We are very proud to work with HTL and Louth County Council in establishing a template for efficient building and achieving the new standard for Additive Construction I.S. EN ISO/ASTM 52939:2023. It is with great pride that we receive this award with our partner HTL, and while celebrating 75 Years at Roadstone we continue to drive the construction industry in Ireland
